Hafez Opera Arrives at Ferdowsi Hall

The Hafez Puppet Opera, written, designed, and directed by Behrouz Gharibpour, will be performed by the Aran Puppet Theater Group, with production by the Roudaki Foundation, starting on November 16, 2025 (25 Aban 1404) at Ferdowsi Hall in Tehran.

Roudaki Foundation: following its provincial performances in cities such as Shiraz and Sari, Hafez Opera will be staged in Tehran beginning on November 16. The opera’s music composition is by Amir Pourkhalaji, and the vocal performers include Alireza Ghorbani, Ali Zand Vakili, Vahid Taj, Haleh Seyfizadeh, the late Eshagh Anvar, and others, accompanied by a choral ensemble.

The Hafez Opera is inspired by the philosophical and poetic ideas of Hafez of Shiraz (Lesan al-Ghayb). A distinctive feature of the production is that the vocal parts are based on traditional Iranian vocal radifs (melodic modes). The symphonic sections of the opera were performed under the conductorship of Amir Pourkhalaji by an orchestra in Varna, Bulgaria.

The puppet cast of the Hafez Puppet Opera includes more than 22 performers, with Ghasem Rahmati and Ghoncheh Nadgaran serving as assistant directors.

The Aran Puppet Theater Group has previously performed various puppet operas — including Rumi, Ashura, Rostam and Sohrab, and Hafez — in cities such as Gorgan, Mashhad, Shiraz, Babol, Sari, as well as Rome, Dubai, Tbilisi, Charleville-Mézières, Prague, Kyiv, Turin, and Krakow.
The Hafez Puppet Opera, written, designed, and directed by Behrouz Gharibpour, and produced by the Roudaki Foundation, will be performed from November 16 at 7:30 PM at Ferdowsi Hall.
