“A Thousand and One Nights” at Vahdat Hall: Tehran Symphony Orchestra to Perform Shahrzad
The Tehran Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nasir Heidarian, will perform works by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Erfan Vakili under the title Shahrzad on 18 and 19 (Mehr 26 and 27) at Vahdat Hall.
Roudaki Foundation: the orchestra’s first performance of the autumn season will feature Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite Shahrzad, Opus 35—a masterpiece by the renowned Russian composer—alongside compositions by Erfan Vakili, the Iranian musician and composer.
Rimsky-Korsakov wrote this timeless work in 1888, inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights. Shahrzad is considered one of his most beloved compositions, combining imaginative orchestration and brilliant tonal color to transport listeners into a world of legend and fantasy.
The work was premiered on October 28, 1888, in St. Petersburg, conducted by the composer himself. The suite consists of four movements, each inspired by one of the stories from The Arabian Nights: The Sea and Sinbad’s Ship, The Story of the Kalandar Prince, The Young Prince and the Young Princess and Festival at Baghdad.
The Tehran Symphony Orchestra’s concert, titled Scheherazade, conducted by Nasir Heidarian, will take place at 9:30 p.m. on 18 and 19, 2025, at Vahdat Hall. Tickets are available for purchase through the HonarTicket website.
