A Nostalgic Night with the National Orchestra of Iran Featuring Works by Mohammad Sarir / Honoring a Legendary Composer at Vahdat Hall
The first concert of the National Orchestra of Iran in the new year was held on the evening of Monday, April 21st (Ordibehesht 1st), under the title “A Memory Accompanies Me”, conducted by Homayoun Rahimian and featuring the vocals of Ali Tafreshi at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall.
Roudaki Foundation: the National Orchestra of Iran performed a repertoire comprised of works by the esteemed composer Mohammad Sarir. Held in the presence of Sarir himself, the concert offered a memorable evening for enthusiasts of Iranian music. The performance featured Ali Tafreshi as the orchestra’s lead vocalist.
The concert opened with the performance of “Iran, Iran”, a piece with lyrics by the late Touraj Negahban. This was followed by “Avaz Ba Eshgh” (Song with Love), composed and arranged by Mohammad Sarir, based on a poem by the late Fereydoon Moshiri.The program continued with the pieces “Baran” (Rain), with lyrics by the late Hamid Mosadegh, “Shirin and Farhad”, and “Khazane Omr” (The Autumn of Life)—the latter composed by Mostafa Noriani and arranged by Mohammad Sarir.
One of the most emotionally stirring moments of the evening came with the performance of the beloved and nostalgic song “Jan-e Maryam”, originally composed by Kambiz Mozhdehi, with lyrics by the late Mohammad Nouri and arrangement by Mohammad Sarir. The piece revived warm memories and moved the audience deeply.
The orchestra then performed “Be Khaatere Parandeh” (For the Sake of the Bird), with lyrics by Hamid Mosadegh, followed by “Sokhane Eshgh” (Words of Love) based on a poem by the classical Persian poet Saadi, and “Delaviztarin” (The Most Enchanting) with lyrics by Fereydoon Moshiri.
At the end of the concert, in response to enthusiastic applause and requests from the audience, the orchestra performed “Jan-e Maryam” once more as an ending.
Roudaki Foundation honored Mohammad Sarir for his decades of tireless dedication, principled creativity, and enduring contributions to Iranian music. Amid a standing ovation, the Foundation’s CEO presented Sarir with a plaque signed by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance along with a special gift.
Notable guests and artists attending the event included Hassan Riahi, Nasir Heidarian, Razmik Ohanian, Fazel Jamshidi, Alireza Miralinaghi, Mohsen Rajabpour, Parichehr Khalvati, Azadeh Amiri, Niusha Barimani, and others.
